The People’s Beatles: Here comes the book

Four months ago, we called on all Beatles fans to dig out their own personal photos of the Fab Four. The ones proudly standing in their entrance next to their wedding photo and the ones in an old shoebox, tucked away in their attics.

The goal was to raise money for Nordoff Robbins, the largest independent Music Therapy charity in the UK, by assembling all of these unseen pictures into a stunning photo book, with anecdotes by Barry Miles, Sir Paul McCartney’s official biographer.

Fans across the universe came together, and in less than six weeks, submitted over 1000 images. We can’t thank you enough for all the photos we received. We felt privileged to discover these unknown and personal snaps of Paul, Ringo, John and George – it was almost like opening a treasure box.

The People’s Beatles is now available, and you can buy it here for £25. 100% of the profits will be donated to Nordoff Robbins. The photos are also on show at The Beatles Story museum in Liverpool – the world’s largest permanent exhibition purely devoted to the lives and times of The Beatles.

Let it be a fascinating behind-the-scenes

This beautiful coffee table book features over 250 photographs of The Beatles and narrates, through the eyes of their fans, the incredible story of the Fab Four, from the Cavern Club in Liverpool to the height of Beatlemania. It also shows a side of the band that no professional photo gives justice to, the friends and musicians behind the godlike superstars. Believe us, you’re going to want to look at this book eight days a week. Take a first look below at some of the photos featured in the book.

Once again, to all the Beatles’ fans who showed support or participated in this amazing project dedicated to helping Nordoff Robbins, the largest independent Music Therapy charity in the UK: from us to you, thank you.

“On the 20th November 1963, my mum and two of her school friends bunked off school to go to see their idols who were doing a gig at the Manchester Apollo. They did not have tickets so queued up with the thousands of others, but the tickets sold out before they reached the box office! Carrying a giant panda toy, they went to the back door of the gig and were met by a bodyguard who snatched the panda off them and slammed the door in their faces. Devastated, but not to be beaten, the gutsy teenagers went round the corner to the Manchester Evening News and told a reporter. He saw a great opportunity and so went back to the Apollo with them and a couple of photographers and explained what had happened. When the Beatles heard the story, they invited my mum and her excited friends backstage to meet them, have a photo shoot and even got front row seats to the gig!

They were front page in the Manchester papers the next day, but they didn’t get in trouble for bunking off school as the teachers were too excited to hear their story!”

“George was just driving past when I snapped this. I can’t remember if he was picking up the rest of the band! The Beatles were staying in the Royal Pier Hotel with Gerry & the Pacemakers for their 6 nights of performances at the Odeon Cinema. I spent 2 of the days outside the hotel getting autographs, chatting to them and taking photos.”
