In the spirit of all things crafty, we asked designer, writer and photo-booth extraordinaire, Emily Fisher (AKA Fishee Designs) to show us how it’s done… over to you, Emily!

”I run a vintage and retro photo booth at weddings most weekends, but it’s a rather elaborate set up, with a viewing screen, and automatic printing with a prop box to rival any dressing up shop and I man the whole thing and enjoy banter with guests all evening.

So when Photobox asked me to put a DIY together for their blog, I was very excited to create something new and fun that anyone can do in the comfort of their own home for many different occasions. Let’s take things back to basics and show you how to create a fun and easy photo booth for everyone to enjoy…

What you will need:

A 10mm x 1m length of dowelling (or anything you can get your hands on – a broom handle would do!)

Some wool (about 4 balls) of different colours

3 Nails

Hammer

Pair of Scissors

Foam sheets of your choice (I went for glitter!)

BBQ Skewers

Glue Gun and Glue

A camera (digital or instant) or smartphone – I like to use my Instax camera!

How to create your fun and easy photo booth

To start you will need to take your hammer and nails, and your length of dowelling. Hammer a nail in to each end of your dowelling, and tie each end of a length of wool around each nail to form a triangle.

Put a nail in the wall (where you want to hang it) and hang the dowelling on the wall – then, take your wool and wrap apron. 1 meter lengths around you fingers.

It will take forever if you do one length at a time, so speed up the process by wrapping several lengths and then take your scissors and chop one end, to give you about 2m of wool folded in half.

Hang them over your dowelling rod. Do this over and over again until the length of your rod is covered in wool. I have mismatched the different colours for a random effect but you could have fun with ombré or rainbow colours too. Once you have covered your entire length of dowelling, this creates your fun and easy backdrop.

To create your props, I have chosen just to stick with Moustaches on Sticks, but if you are feeling adventurous, you could do, ties, hats, glasses.

Take your sheets of foam and turn them over to draw your shapes on the back. Cut them out and then using your glue gun, put a blob of glue on the back of the moustache, and place the spiky end of your BBQ skewer in the blob and turn the stick. This helps the entire end of the skewer to be covered in glue and more secure. Repeat with all your ‘tashes.

And there you have it, it is THAT simple. Now it’s time to get snapping. I love using my Instax camera as you get fun, instant photos. But if you have access to a digital camera or smartphone you could take lots of photos and easily get them printed via PhotoBox.
